News and Events

The Eye of the Tiger section of this site describes the current activities of the Sydney, Australia Choy Lee Fut school. It will act as an international newsletter providing people both in Australia and our international schools with news on what's happening in our school, as well as important dates and events.

Welcome again to this lunar year's last instalment of ''The Eye of the Tiger'. We have almost finished another hectic year of lion dances, seminars and of course hard training!

Coming up soon is the start of the lunar year. This year Chinese new year falls on the 24th of January on the modern calendar, heralding the first year of the snake for the new millennium.

Our fist ever friendly Choy Lee Fut championships was a huge event involving over 200 competitors from around the world. Participants included students from the schools of Chen Yong Fa, Doc Fai Wong, Lee Koon Hung, Buck Sam Kong and others. Never before has so many Choy Lee Fut schools come together is a friendly competition to show and explore techniques and to make new friends from all around the world.

I'm sure everyone who went gained something form it, with the younger students inspired by the skill and elegance of the senior students and our more experience participants watching the zest and enthusiasm of our younger students. As Master Chen said during the competition "win or lose doesn't matter", we were there to see, and to make, our Choy Lee Fut family grow and develop.

This month we highlight some of the people and events from the championship in our 'Gallery'. Please come in and check it out.

Following the Choy Lee Fut championships was the annual European Choy Lee Fut seminars taught by Master Chen. Held in Zakopane in the fresh mountain air of Poland. Master Chen taught a large variety of forms including: Gung Ji Fook Fu Kuen (I Pattern Taming Tiger Fist), Dart Mor Gim (Bodhidharma's sword), Fu Pow Dar Chart (Tiger Versus Dragon Two Person Form), Ng Ying Bak Kwa (Five Animal, Eight Trigrams Fists), Jui Kuen (Drunken Fist), Mui Fa Bin (Plum Blossom Whip) and Wu Chi (The Infinite Void).

Also a  special thanks to Sifu Grzegorz Ciembroniewicz for working tirelessly to make both the championships and seminars happen.

As usual our links page is getting bigger by the month with an ever increasing number of Choy Lee Fut schools now with a web presence, and also a number of site that have been updated.

This month our 'Gallery' features some images and videos of the recent Championships in Poland. There are demonstrations from some of our most senior students as well as some up and coming juniors. We will be adding to the gallery gradually over the month as we prepare more and more footage.

Our 'Feature' article this month is a continuation of the history of Choy Lee Fut as recorded by the grandson of the founder of Choy Lee Fut, Chan Yiu Chi. A direct and unambiguous insight into the origins of our style, this account from the family's written archives dispels many of the myths that have previously surfaced about the origins of Choy Lee Fut.
