Editors note on romanisation

No attempt has been made to apply a recognised, or even a consistent, method to convert Chinese characters to Roman characters.

Due to various changes in romanisation standards over time, surnames such as "Chen" and "Chan" have the same character and meaning in Chinese, despite appearing in the text as different roman words. The former is the Mandarin Pin Yin romanisation whilst the latter is the Cantonese Yale romanisation.

Likewise the names "Choy Lee Fut", "Choy Li Fut", "Choy Lay Fut", "Choy Le Fut" and "Cai Li Fo" all refer to the same style of martial arts using different romanisation methods.

Popular variations of romanisation have been adopted wherever possible to aid in comparisons with popular texts.

No attempt has been made to reconcile these differing romanisation methods, nor has any attempt been made to use a recognised romanisation standard.
